The Coronavirus Chronicles: Jan Blachowicz

Money fights are all the rage in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. That reality has sometimes led to title opportunities being given to established stars with beefier resumes instead of contenders who have displayed recent divisional dominance. Light heavyweight Jan Blachowicz does not want to become the latest victim in such a scenario and hopes reigning 205-pound champion Jon Jones sees the situation in the same light.

“Yeah, it is a little bit frustrating,” Blachowicz told Sherdog.com. “I believe Jon Jones chooses the sporting ways, not the easy fights [or] the fights for money. He’ll choose me and I’ll give him the toughest fight of his life, and I’ll beat him and knock him out. I promise you and him [that] I will do this. He can make money fights after his great career [in the UFC ends]. Everybody does this. When we finish our career in the UFC, we can do bulls--- fights like this. True fighters and true sportsmen have to do the real fights. This is my opinion, and I hope he [takes] the fight against me.”

In this exclusive interview with Sherdog, Blachowicz discusses his pivotal victory over Corey Anderson in February, alterations to his training, his history of success in rematches and the impact of the coronavirus pandemic in his native Poland.
