ADIDAS ANNOUNCES PARTNERSHIP WITH UFC FIGHTER ROBBIE LAWLER

(PRESS RELEASE) -- NEW YORK/PORTLAND, Ore. - adidas today announced a partnership with Robbie Lawler, the number one contender for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Welterweight title.

The new partnership will provide world-class equipment to Lawler to help him prepare for his upcoming UFC on Fox 12 main event bout against Matt Brown, after his third round knockout of Jake Ellenberger at UFC 173 in Las Vegas this past May.

Lawler challenged for the vacant UFC Welterweight title in a hotly contested bout against Johny Hendricks in the main event of UFC 171. Though he came up short, Lawler showed the world that he’s one of the top welterweights in the world.

“It’s an honor to be supported by a major sports brand like adidas,” said Robbie Lawler. “The guys in the adidas Combat Sports division are diehards, they love MMA and the fight game and want to do great things for the fans and the industry, so I’m excited to be a part of that.”

“We are honored to announce the signing of Robbie Lawler to our global combat sports team, and to have the opportunity to work with him,” said Scott Viscomi, Managing Director of adidas Combat Sports USA. “Robbie is an outstanding athlete and individual who we have the utmost respect for. He is one of the most exciting athletes in the Ultimate Fighting Championship and his fights never fail to excite the crowd. We look forward to working closely with Robbie to cement our commitment in contributing to the growth of the global MMA market.”

“Working with Scott Viscomi and the adidas Combat Sports Division on the Robbie Lawler endorsement has been an honor and a privilege,” stated David Martin, Manager for Robbie Lawler. “We all believe that this deal is a positive sign for the future of MMA and all combat sports. When a brand like adidas gets behind a trailblazing, respected, and beloved veteran athlete like Robbie, it’s truly a sign of good things to come. We look forward to the future and working closely with the adidas brand.”

Lawler, 5’11” and 171 lbs., holds a professional record of 23-10-1, and is the number two ranked welterweight in the UFC, the largest promoter in mixed martial arts (MMA). His latest run in the UFC has seen him challenge for the welterweight title at UFC 171, as well as earn “Fight of the Night” and “Knockout of the Night” honors. He’s held belts in ICON Sport and EliteXC as the Middleweight champion and was Sherdog.com’s “Comeback Fighter of the Year” for 2013.

Lawler made his welterweight return at UFC 157 with a stunning knockout over former UFC Welterweight title contender, Josh Koscheck. Since his return to the UFC, Lawler has compiled a 4-1 record that includes wins over Rory MacDonald and Jake Ellenberger.

Lawler is set to take on Matt Brown in the main event of the UFC’s return to FOX in San Jose, California on Saturday, July 26. Lawler versus Brown will be shown live on network television in North America and will also available around the world through UFC’s various international distributors. UFC programming is broadcast in 150 countries, reaching over one billion homes worldwide, in 21 different languages.
