The Bracket: UFC 125-Pound Tournament

Four men entered. Two men remain.

Team Alpha Male’s Joseph Benavidez and AMC Pankration’s Demetrious Johnson have punched their tickets to the Ultimate Fighting Championship flyweight tournament. They will face one another later this year in a bout to crown the promotion’s first-ever champion at 125 pounds.

Benavidez waltzed into the final in March, as he stopped Japanese veteran Yasuhiro Urushitani on second-round punches at UFC on FX 2. The 27-year-old has recorded four wins in a row, the second-longest streak of his career. Wins over former WEC bantamweight champions Eddie Wineland and Miguel Torres, onetime International Fight League featherweight titleholder Wagnney Fabiano and 2007 Abu Dhabi Combat Club Submission Wrestling World Championships gold medalist Rani Yahya dot a stellar Benavidez resume.

Johnson took a decidedly different route to the final, having endured two three-round battles with the top-ranked Ian McCall. Their first encounter in March ended in a controversial majority draw. “Mighty Mouse” emerged victorious from the rematch at UFC on FX 3 on Friday at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Fla., earning a unanimous decision over McCall.
