By the Numbers: UFC Fight Night 94

Dustin Poirier had lightweight title aspirations. Michael Johnson had other ideas.

Johnson ended Poirier’s run of success at 155 pounds in emphatic fashion, knocking out the Louisiana native 1:35 into the opening round of their main event encounter at UFC Fight Night (online betting) in Hidalgo, Texas, on Saturday night. “The Menace” flattened Poirier with a counter right hook, and “The Diamond” couldn’t recover before Johnson sealed his triumph with a couple powerful follow-up punches. Now it’s Johnson who has some intriguing options in arguably the sport’s most difficult division.

Here is a by-the-numbers look at UFC Fight Night “Poirier vs. Johnson,” with statistics courtesy of FightMetric.com.

9: Knockdowns in UFC competition for Johnson, the most among active lightweights and No. 2 all-time in the division behind Melvin Guillard (13).

994: Days since Johnson’s last knockout triumph in the Octagon, a second-round KO of Gleison Tibau at UFC 168. The Blackzilian representative’s previous four bouts had gone the distance.

4: Consecutive first-round knockouts for Derek Brunson, who finished Uriah Hall at the 1:41 mark of the opening frame in their middleweight co-headlining bout. That ties him with Stipe Miocic and Mairbek Taisumov for the longest active knockout streak in the UFC. Brunson has also finished Roan Carneiro, Sam Alvey, and Ed Herman during his current run.

60: Combined significant strikes by which Brunson has outlanded Hall, Carneiro, Alvey and Herman. The former collegiate wrestler has only absorbed a total of five significant strikes in those four victories.

5: Consecutive triumphs for Brunson, the second-longest active winning streak in the middleweight division behind only Yoel Romero (seven).

144: Significant strikes landed by Evan Dunham in his decision triumph over short notice foe Rick Glenn in their lightweight bout. Glenn, meanwhile landed 58 significant strikes.

5: Fighters in UFC history to land 100 or more significant strikes in four or more bouts. On Saturday, Dunham joined this group, which also includes Georges St. Pierre, Nam Phan, T.J. Dillashaw and Chris Lytle.

123: Combined significant strikes landed by Dunham (85) and Glenn (38) in round three.

4: Combined submission attempts by Islam Makhachev and Chris Wade in their lightweight tilt. None of the attempts earned a finish, however, as Makhachev eventually won a unanimous decision.

19: Seconds needed by Chas Skelly to submit Maximo Blanco with an anaconda choke, making it the fastest featherweight submission in UFC/WEC history and the eighth-fastest submission in UFC history overall.

1: Significant strike landed by Skelly, a flying kick to the chest of Blanco to begin the short-lived bout.

118: Total strikes landed by Belal Muhammad in his third-round technical knockout stoppage of Augusto Montano at welterweight. Montano, meanwhile, landed 72 total strikes.

48: Significant leg strikes for Montano; Muhammad landed just seven. However, “Remember the Name” did hold a 55-to-12 edge in significant head strikes against his opponent.

4:46: Time of Antonio Carlos Jr.’s third-round submission of Leonardo Guimaraes, making it the third-latest submission in UFC middleweight history in a three-round bout.

7: Takedowns landed in 14 attempts by Carlos Jr., the most of anyone on the card. “Cara de Sapato” also held a 94-to-15 edge in total strikes landed.

3: Combined knockdowns landed by Jose Quinonez (two) and Joey Gomez (one) in their bantamweight encounter. Quinonez prevailed via unanimous decision.

6: Draws in the UFC thus far in 2016 after Alejandro Perez and Albert Morales dueled to a majority draw on Saturday night. That figure matches the total number of draws in the last four years in Las Vegas-based promotion combined. From 2012 to 2015 there were no more than two draws in the UFC in a single year.
