Sherdog’s Top 10: Strangest Endings

No. 8

8. Emmanuel Yarborough vs. Tatsuaki Nakano
Shooto “Shoot the Shooto XX”
April 26, 1998 | Yokohama, Japan

Yarborough is mostly known as the 6-foot-8, 600-pound behemoth on the receiving end of Keith Hackney’s beating at UFC 3. He was also punched out by Daiju Takase at Pride 3. However, fans might not know that Yarborough actually has a professional MMA win to his credit.

Between his bouts against Hackney and Takase, Yarborough took on a portly Japanese fighter with a rocking mullet at a Shooto event in 1998. What transpired at the Yokohama Arena was comedy gold. Yarborough stumbled across the ring and executed a takedown. After Nakano slid underneath the bottom rope, the two had to be reset away from the corner. When the fight resumed, Yarborough simply laid on Nakano’s face until he realized there was no escape. Nakano ultimately tapped to smothering 77 seconds into round one and did not fight again for more than four years.
