Conor McGregor

Do not expect McGregor to send Marc Goddard a Christmas card anytime soon. Twice in less than a month the UFC lightweight champion had issues with the respected referee during an international fight card. McGregor rushed the cage at Bellator 187 in Dublin on Nov. 10 after SBG Ireland teammate Charlie Ward scored a knockout over Paul Redmond 4:59 into the opening round of their bout. McGregor tackled Ward in celebration inside the cage before Goddard and another official came over to intervene. Ward and McGregor were eventually separated, but the Irishman did not appreciate Goddard telling him to leave the cage. As Goddard walked over to check on the fallen Redmond, McGregor shoved the veteran official in the back. McGregor continued to yell and point at Goddard as he was surrounded by more officials, and eventually the “Notorious” one left the cage on his own. It was not the first incident involving McGregor and Goddard. At UFC Fight Night 118 in Gdansk, Poland, on Oct. 21, McGregor left his seat and began yelling instructions from cageside to teammate Artem Lobov during his bout against Andre Fili. Goddard eventually paused the action to order McGregor back to his seat, as the Irishman was not part of Lobov’s official corner for the featherweight fight. To make matters worse, McGregor was captured on film using the term “f----t” to describe Fili backstage. McGregor apologized for his actions during an appearance on “The Late, Late Show.” The Irishman also cited his efforts to support the LGBT community when he previously campaigned to legalize gay marriage in his home country.
