Cody Brundage: You're Only As Good As Your Last Fight

Cody Brundage has much to prove at UFC on ESPN 39. Brundage (7-2, 1-1 UFC) will walk out for the third time as a UFC fighter to face “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 29 finalist Tresean Gore in a middleweight tilt. After dropping a unanimous decision to Nick Maximov in his promotional debut at UFC 266, the 28-year-old Factory X representative bounced back with a magnificent performance, forcing Dalcha Lungiambula to tap due to a tight guillotine choke in the first frame of their UFC Fight Night 203 encounter. The emphatic victory caught the attention of fans and industry people alike, but Brundage feels he still needs to prove himself every time he steps into the cage.

“I feel like I gotta prove myself to the UFC audience every single time I fight,” he said. “I don't feel any different this time than I did my debut, than I do in the fight before. I feel like every time, no matter what, you're always gonna have doubters and critics and people that wanna see you fail just as much as you're gonna have people that wanna see you succeed. I feel like I gotta prove myself every time. You're only as good as your last fight and, and this is the prove-it business. That's the name of the game, right? Like you could win three fights in a row, you go get knocked out and no one cares anymore. I'm always trying to prove it. Always.”
