UFC on FX 5 Gets Palaszewski-Nunes, Gaudinot-Uyenoyama, Mitrione-Broughton, 2 More Additions

Five new fights have been added to the developing UFC on FX 5 bill, including a heavyweight showdown between Matt Mitrione and Rob Broughton.

Also featured at the Oct. 5 event will be a flyweight confrontation between Darren Uyenoyama and Louis Gaudinot, as well as a featherweight scrap pitting Bart Palaszewski against Diego Nunes. Meanwhile, lightweights Carlo Prater and Marcus LeVesseur will collide, as will welterweights Josh Neer and Justin Edwards.

UFC on FX 5 takes place at Target Center in Minneapolis and is headlined by a heavyweight showdown between Hawaiian prospect Travis Browne and former Strikeforce talent Antonio Silva.

A onetime NFL player and “Ultimate Fighter” Season 10 alumnus, Mitrione, 34, suffered the first loss of his six-fight pro career in his most recent outing, dropping a lackluster decision to Cheick Kongo last October at UFC 137. Broughton, 29, enters the cage off back-to-back defeats, as “The Bear” was outpointed by Browne and countryman Philip De Fries last year. Mitrione and Broughton were originally supposed to meet at this weekend's UFC on Fox 4 event, but visa issues postponed the contest.

Uyenoyama joins the flyweight ranks after debuting with the UFC at 135 pounds, out-grappling Norifumi Yamamoto en route to a unanimous decision at November’s UFC on Fox 1. Gaudinot returned to his natural weight class after a bantamweight stint on “TUF 14,” dispatching debuting Brazilian John Lineker via submission on May 5 at UFC on Fox 3.

Palaszewski has gone 1-1 since entering the UFC fold last October, knocking out Tyson Griffin before stumbling against Hatsu Hioki at February’s UFC 144. Another World Extreme Cagefighting export, Nunes is 2-2 in his Octagon career, most recently falling to Dennis Siver on April 14 at UFC on Fuel TV 2.

Once a WEC welterweight title challenger, Prater makes his third UFC effort coming off a decision defeat to T.J. Grant at UFC on Fuel TV 3. A four-time NCAA Division III national champion wrestler, LeVesseur saw a three-fight winning streak snapped when he was submitted by a Cody McKenzie guillotine choke in his last in-cage outing, which also occurred at UFC on Fuel TV 3.

A 45-fight veteran, Neer had a six-fight winning streak ended by Mike Pyle in his last UFC appearance on June 8, falling by knockout with just four seconds remaining in the first frame. Edwards, who holds just nine pro bouts to his credit, has lost two of three and was last seen dropping a unanimous decision to John Maguire at UFC 138 last November.
