Jedrzejczyk-Kowalkiewicz, Tate-Pennington Set for UFC 205 at Madison Square Garden

UFC 205 has another title fight, as Joanna Jedrzejczyk will defend the strawweight belt against Karolina Kowalkiewicz in a battle of Polish rivals.

Promotional officials announced the contest on Friday, as well as a bantamweight clash pitting ex-champ Miesha Tate against Raquel Pennington. UFC 205 takes place at Madison Square Garden in New York on Nov. 12 and is also expected to include a welterweight championship tilt between Tyron Woodley and Stephen Thompson. The card will be announced in its entirety at a press conference on Tuesday.

Jedrzejczyk and Kowalkiewicz squared off in an amateur bout in 2012, with the reigning 115-pound queen earning a first-round submission triumph. Jedrzejczyk is 12-0 as a professional, including title defenses against Jessica Penne, Valerie Letourneau and Claudia Gadelha.

Kowalkiewicz is 10-0 as a pro and 3-0 in the Octagon. After a split-decision triumph against Rose Namajunas in her most recent outing at UFC 201, the 30-year-old Top Team Lodz representative called for a future showdown with her rival in the Empire State.

“I hope I will fight with Joanna in New York. She always says that I’m not on her level,” Kowalkiewicz said after UFC 201. “I hope now I showed everybody that I can fight with her. I am ready; I hope she’s ready.”

Tate will return for the first time since losing the bantamweight strap to Amanda Nunes via first-round submission at UFC 200. Prior to that, “Cupcake” had been on a five-fight winning streak that included a fifth-round tapout of Holly Holm at UFC 196 to claim 135-pound gold.

Pennington, meanwhile, has won three straight and four of her last five in the Las Vegas-based promotion. Most recently, “Rocky” earned a three-round verdict over Elizabeth Phillips at UFC 202 on Aug. 20.
