8 Bouts Greenlit for UFC Live 3

Erik Koch | Dave Mandel/Sherdog.com

Eight bouts are now official for UFC Live 3 “Sanchez vs. Kampmann,” as the promotion Saturday ratified a featherweight scrap between Erik Koch and Cub Swanson.

The event, which goes down March 3 at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Ky., will be headlined by a welterweight showdown pitting Danish striker Martin Kampmann against Greg Jackson product Diego Sanchez.

Nicknamed “New Breed,” Koch comes into the fight riding back-to-back victories. The 22-year-old went 3-1 during his time with the WEC, suffering the only loss of his career to Team Alpha Male standout Chad Mendes at WEC 47 in March. Koch’s last trip inside the little blue cage resulted in a jaw-dropping performance, as the Duke Roufus-trained fighter earned “Knockout of the Night” honors for his KO of newcomer Francisco Rivera at WEC 52. After staggering the Californian with a high kick early in the first frame, Koch followed Rivera to the mat and pounded out the victory just 96 seconds into the bout.

An eight-time WEC veteran, Swanson possesses a wealth of experience and has competed against the best 145-pounders in the sport. In the last two years, the 27-year-old has posted a 2-2 record, earning victories over Mackens Semerzier and John Franchi while falling to current UFC featherweight king Jose Aldo and the aforementioned Mendes. Swanson’s loss to Aldo was particularly devastating, as the Brazilian wrecking ball finished the fight by landing a sharp flying knee to Swanson’s head just eight seconds into the fight.

UFC Live 3 will also feature a pivotal middleweight matchup, as former collegiate wrestling standouts Mark Munoz and C.B. Dollaway will lock horns. Additionally, former WEC bantamweight ace Brian Bowles will go toe-to-toe with Damacio Page, and Team Takedown representative Shane Roller will meet Thiago Tavares.
