On April 20, the Ultimate Fighting Championship will make its debut in St. Petersburg, Russia, for UFC Fight Night 149. Headlining the event is a heavyweight encounter between former title challenger Alistair Overeem and Alexey Oleynik.

Overeem (44-17, 1 NC) most recently bounced back from two consecutive knockout losses with a win over Sergei Pavlovich. He will now be looking to establish a new winning streak in pursuit of another title shot, having failed in his UFC 203 attempt against Stipe Miocic. “The Reem” is currently rated as Sherdog and ESPN’s No. 8 heavyweight in the world, while he is also the No. 7 contender in the UFC rankings.

As for Oleynik (57-11-1), the submission specialist is coming off the biggest win of his UFC career after submitting Mark Hunt at UFC Moscow last year. With four wins in his last five outings, the Russian will look to climb the rankings further with a win over someone as reputed as Overeem. “The Boa Constrictor” is not in ESPN’s Top 10 but is ranked just below Overeem as 9th in the Sherdog and UFC rankings. A win for either competitor could move them up the ranks, but not significantly, as they will likely need a couple of more wins to earn a shot at the belt held by Daniel Cormier.

Another bout on the main card is a women’s flyweight scrap between ranked contenders Roxanne Modafferi and Antonina Shevchenko. Modafferi (22-15) has lost two of her last three, but still finds herself ranked as the 10th-best flyweight in the world by ESPN. She is also ranked No. 7 in the UFC rankings.

Shevchenko (7-0), meanwhile, will look to continue her unbeaten run after a successful first two fights under the UFC banner. The sister of the current flyweight champion, Shevchenko is currently unranked by Sherdog and ESPN, but has climbed up the UFC rankings to No. 13. A win for “La Pantera” will likely see her enter the Top 10.

Lastly, heavyweight Marcin Tybura is also in action as he takes on Shamil Abdurakhimov on the prelims. Tybura (17-4) bounced back from his TKO loss to Derrick Lewis last year with a unanimous decision win over Stefan Struve and will look to make it two wins in a row this weekend. “Tybur” is currently ranked No. 10 in the UFC rankings while his opponent in Abdurakhimov (19-4), who has won four of his last five fights, is currently ranked No. 13. A win for Tybura may not move him up the rankings significantly, but third consecutive victory for Abdurakhimov could move him into the Top 10.
