Magana Victorious at Invincible

ONTARIO, Calif. -- In just the fifth fight of his career, Brandon Magana (Pictures) won a unanimous decision over King of the Cage veteran Brian Warren (Pictures) to earn the Invincible welterweight title at the "A Means to an End" card at the Ontario Convention Center.

Perhaps Warren underestimated Magana, who had 16 fewer fights, but he quickly found out that Magana was no pushover. Magana backed Warren against the fence and eventually put him on his back.

From that point on Magana used solid wrestling to control Warren from inside his guard and used a workman-like -- if not entirely effective -- ground-and-pound attack.

Warren did manage to escape on a few occasions, but was unable to keep the fight standing.

Magana almost let the match slip away at the end of the third round and had to fight off a kimura and then a guillotine choke as the final bell sounded. He won 29-28, 29-28 and 30-27 on the judges' cards.

Heavyweight Catalin Zmarendescu finished off Houston Smith (Pictures) with hard knees to the body to win by technical knockout at 1:54 of the second round.

Dominic Verdugo tasted defeat for the first time when Philip Brown submitted him with an anaconda choke at 1:33 of the first round.

Eighteen-year-old Junior Kling displayed impressive skills while putting a beating on Musa Toliver for two rounds. Toliver was unable to answer the bell for the third giving Kling a technical knockout.

In earlier bouts, Chris Black defeated Miguel Linares (Pictures) with a guillotine choke 2:05 into the first round, while Ronald Lebreton topped Cameron Adams with a unanimous decision.

Roberto Vargas scored a TKO over Brian Aguirre at 1:53 in the third round, and Tony Dalton stopped David Gomez with a swift guillotine choke 24 seconds into the first round.
