By The Numbers: UFC 285 Pre-Fight Edition


Former pound-for-pound king and two-time Ultimate Fighting Championship light heavyweight titleholder Jon Jones will return from 1,120-day sabbatical when he challenges Ciryl Gane for the interim heavyweight crown in the UFC 285 headliner on Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Meanwhile, Valentina Shevchenko defends her women’s flyweight championship against Alexa Grasso in the five-round co-main event at 125 pounds.

As UFC 285 “Jones vs. Gane” approaches, a look at some of the numbers the fighters on the card bring to the table:

10: Jones wins by knockout or technical knockout, accounting for 38% of his career total (26). His list of UFC victims: Alexander Gustafsson, Chael Sonnen, Mauricio Rua, Vladimir Matyushenko and Brandon Vera. Jones owns six other wins by submission (24%) and 10 more by decision (38%).

5: Consecutive calendar years in which Gane has fought at least once. He went 2-0 in 2018, 4-0 in 2019, 1-0 in 2020, 3-0 in 2021 and 1-1 in 2022.

10: Countries in which Shevchenko has plied her mixed martial arts trade. She has gone 9-2 in the United States, 3-0 in South Korea, 2-0 in her native Kyrgyzstan, 2-0 in Kazakhstan, 2-0 in Peru, 1-1 in Canada, 1-0 in Russia, 1-0 in Brazil, 1-0 in Uruguay and 1-0 in Singapore.

12: Seconds needed for Grasso to put away Lupita Hernandez with punches under the Fight Hard Championship banner on May 11, 2013. Nearly a decade later, it remains her fastest finish to date.

8: Shavkat Rakhmonov victories by submission, accounting for 50% of his career total (16). His methods of choice: three rear-naked chokes, three guillotine chokes and two rear-naked chokes. Rakhmonov holds eight other victories by knockout or technical knockout (50%). He squares off with Geoff Neal in a three-round welterweight showcase.

121: Significant strikes landed by Neal in his third-round knockout of Vicente Luque at UFC on ESPN 40 in August. It established a new high-water mark for the Fortis MMA rep.

53: Rounds completed by Mateusz Gamrot as a professional mixed martial artist. The former two-division KSW champion has gone the distance on 11 different occasions and carries a 9-2 record in those bouts. Gamrot confronts Jailin Turner in a three-round lightweight attraction.

2: Sub-minute stoppage wins in three career appearances for Bo Nickal. A four-time NCAA All-American wrestler and three-time national champion at Penn State University, he buried John Noland with punches in 33 seconds at iKon Fighting Championship 3 on June 3, 2022 and dispatched Donovan Beard with a triangle choke in 52 seconds during Week 10 of Dana White’s Contender Series on Sept. 27, 2022. Nickal makes his Octagon debut opposite Jamie Pickett in a three-round middleweight feature.

413: Days since Pickett had his hand raised. He followed his Jan. 15, 2022 unanimous decision over Joseph Holmes at UFC on ESPN 32 with back-to-back losses to Kyle Daukaus and Denis Tiuliulin.

40: Years of age for former Invicta Fighting Championships titleholder Jessica Penne. The oldest fighter on the card, she was born on Jan. 30, 1983 in Newport Beach, California. Penne faces Tabatha Ricci in a three-round women’s strawweight prelim.

22: Years of age for Cameron Saaiman. The youngest fighter on the card, he was born in Pretoria, South Africa, on Dec. 20, 2000. Saaiman meets fellow bantamweight hopeful Leomana Martinez as part of the undercard.

.808: Cumulative winning percentage between the 28 fighters booked to compete at the event. They boast a combined record of 381-90-2. Jones has been credited with the most victories of anyone on the card (26), while Trevin Jones has been saddled with the most losses (nine). Jones anchors the preliminary slate in a bantamweight showdown opposite Cody Garbrandt.
