7. Max Holloway vs. Cody Garbrandt
Rising out of the ashes of B.J. Penn’s depressing fall, Holloway has become the toast of his native Hawaii and emerged as perhaps the best young fighter in mixed martial arts. The 25-year-old Gracie Technics standout has pieced together an 11-fight winning streak since he dropped back-to-back decisions to Dennis Bermudez and Conor McGregor in 2013. Holloway captured the interim UFC featherweight championship with a third-round technical knockout of Anthony Pettis and then unified the title by stopping Brazilian great Jose Aldo with punches in the third round of their UFC 212 encounter. Garbrandt made a quick climb to the top of the bantamweight mountain. The undefeated Team Alpha Male export won his first five bouts in the UFC and then laid claim to the 135-pound title with a decisive five-round decision over Dominick Cruz at UFC 207. Garbrandt’s record sits at 11-0 while he nurses a back injury.
