As a youth, Pat Barry was a martial arts and video game fanatic who often found himself lost in a fantasy world, in which he swiftly dispatched marauders and disappeared into the night like a ninja. Then one day in a kickboxing gym he realized that was all crap and broke down crying.

Coming off a unique run as a UFC heavyweight gunslinger, Barry's life in fighting is an illustration of how mixed martial arts can be a cold reality check for even the most creative dreamer.
